You might have seen on the internet reel series titled 75 hard, a little over two month challenge many influencers do to get their life on track. Other people have done their own version such as 75 soft or 75 creative edition. I tried building my own and it is a main reason for the foundation I have going into 2026. I want to continue to build on this, so I’ve titled it 365 consistent. Also, I loved doing my bingo card last year. This also means I have a few slots left on my resolution list (I have a limit of nine) that I can fill out with new goals as the year progresses. My vision board reflects both my resolutions and my side quests. San Andreas Shifters series by Gail Carriger An amazing series surrounding a pack of (mostly) gay werewolves that took me right back to my Wattpad days in the best way possible. The Sunshine Court by Nora Sakavic The sudden release of another book in my all-time favorite book series threw me right back into my All for the Game series obsession. This book made me the happiest I have been and broke my heart repeatedly over and over and over again. I will not know peace until I read (and then reread and annotate) the next two installments. It also inspired me to reread the original three books, which I hadn’t read since 2017, and it was so worth it. You’re Not My King! by Eryn Hawk New-to-me author this year and she does not miss. This was the first book I read by Eryn and my first alien romance which might have got me hooked. The story was so sweet and spicy and beautiful, featuring our MC overcoming his trauma as he bonds with his new alien husband. The creeping fig has also started to spread up the back wall. The weeds and grass here are a little more under control than the other yards as Kyle hit here the hardest at the beginning. Right now, it could use a bit of tending and some deadheading, which honestly is needed a bit in the front yard as well. The bushes in the front have been feeding many, many bees this year, including this golden bumblebee and many of its more-well-known black cousins. A few butterflies and hummingbirds have also visited. I use the basic-sized lined Moleskine in green. It does its job well, but I will say the pages do bleed sometimes and you always get impressions. Maybe one day I’ll get a notebook with thicker pages, but for now, I’m content. I decorated the cover with stickers from Redbubble which are very durable and they have thousands of designs from different artists. I have finally graduated from being a Pilot person and now use Sharpie S-Gel pens with (I believe) a 0.7mm tip for my main journaling and just in my life in general. The big game changer is they dry instantly, and I mean instantly. Fiorenzo by Sebastian Nothwell (historical romance, NA) I read this book both as a beta reader and as an ARC (advanced reader copy). I knew if any book would rival Oak King Holly King as my favorite book of all time, it would have to be by the same author. This book captured everything I love about Sebastian Nothwell’s writing. This book is truly a masterpiece. I connected to one of the MCs, Enzo, more than I have to any other of his characters, his traits very similar to my own, even his violent-minded tendencies. I enjoyed the tension, the jumping between the fey world and the modern world, the banter and snark between the MCs, but also the tenderness. The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan & Mark Oshiro (urban fantasy, YA) This book validated 11-year-old me on why Nico di Angelo was my favorite character. The bond between the characters is so sweet and turns to a fiery passion. Chiharu is also very relatable to me as a fellow writer and the setting is just so cute and cozy. American Cozy by Stephanie Pedersen I read this book a while ago, but it was my first introduction to hygge; a word in Danish and Norwegian that describes a mood of coziness with feelings of wellness and contentment. For more on it, I highly recommend The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living by Meik Wiking, which teaches the basics and traditional hygge. I chose American Cozy for this however because it gives more help in how to change your life to become more hygge in practical steps and without loosing things you already love in your life and home. It finds a good balance between hygge and the chaos we all know in everyday life. So we get to really see them grow and their relationships develop. Definitely a must-read for all lovers of fantasy who want a little more of a modern take. My favorite character is probably our snarky main character, Elliot. Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke A childhood favorite, but good for all ages. I also highly recommend the audiobook which is narrated by Brendon Fraser. Light-hearted, fun and adventurous with charming characters who will stick with you. So apparently this book did get a sequeal in 2017 that I did not know about for the longest time and still have not read, but I am excited to revisit this world. Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston I heard great things about this book before I read it, but it still blew me away. The characters seemed so real and the relationship between the main characters is one of the best I have seen written in everyone’s (or just my) favorite trope, enemies-to-lovers. I think that was helped by the fact this book was more New Adult than Young Adult. This is another childhood favorite and I think the book that made me want to be a writer. The theme and setting of it is just so cool and it speaks to book lovers of all ages. Oak King Holly King by Sebastian Nothwell For once, I have an actual favorite read of the year. This book blew my mind. I finished it in two days and have reread it twice so far. Two well-crafted interwoven plots told by two beautifully written characters with Victorian romance, Celtic wheel of the year folklore, and sex rituals. Ticked all the boxes. The author also started following me on Instagram and I got to beta-read (and am in the dedication) of the book of sequel novellas to this book: Tales from Blackthorn Briar. (Make sure you read Oak King Holly King first!) I also got a tattoo devoted to this book and am currently rereading it again and annotating. Dark Rise by C.S. Pacat You all should know C.S. Pacat’s Captive Prince series is one of my favorite series of all time so I was so excited when I heard about her new series and boy, it didn’t disappoint. A dark, compelling story that kept you guessing until the end, which was one of the greatest cliffhangers I’ve ever read. I need the sequel like yesterday. Tentacles & Triathlons by Ashley Bennett Disclaimer: I did not know this was a second book in a series until I read it, so I have not read the first book, but I feel you can read them as stand-alones. My first true monsterfucker book and it has me hooked. Fast-paced, sweet and spicy as hell, I enjoyed every second. This was another book I reread as it is just over a hundred pages so can be read in an afternoon. Even in such a short time, the characters’ relationship growth feels natural and not rushed at all. Prince of Sorrows by Kellen Graves Wow, this book was quite a ride. It did feel a bit much for a first book in a series which is why I rated it 3.5 stars. The plot moved very fast and I feel like there should have been more character development for all characters (and villains) besides the MCs and more world development and explanation because it was all crafted with such rich detail you just wanted more. I loved the mix of fantasy and dark academia along with the detailed Celtic mythology and folklore. In both, the story and plot were fast-paced, but the characters were so fleshed out and lovable even for such a big cast. I connected to them and the world more than So This Is Ever After. I’m sad In Deeper Waters is a stand-alone because I would have loved to explore this world and its magic system. Loki and Sigyn: Lessons on Chaos, Laughter & Loyalty from the Norse Gods by Lea Svendsen If you have been here a while, you will know I am a pagan witch and my patron is Loki, Norse god of mischief. He was always my favorite mythological figure growing up so devoting to him was no surprise when I started on my path. But, there are very few (that I could find) books and references for Loki and his following so this book was an insta-buy for me. It was truly a wonderful read that helped me accept and deepen my connection to Loki. Arlo and Faenir’s relationship and journey was incredible and the spicy was filthy good. Hawke’s Bay Food Trail I took my first food tour in Glasgow, Scotland, and it was quite fun to try all the local cuisine. This food tour also ends at the Hawke’s Bay Farmer’s Market with some of the best produce and range the country has to offer. It includes chocolate, honey, olives, bakery items, ice cream, and more. Castlepoint Castlepoint, a small coastal community located about 2 hours northeast of Wellington, is known for its lighthouse, lagoon, and sea cliffs. Also Castle Rock, that New Zealand’s discoverer, Captain James Cook named for its resemblance to a castle battlement. An off-the-beaten-path location for tourists, but popular with the locals. I love the ocean and have never actually been to a lighthouse so this is definitely a must for me. Cathedral Cove New Zealand is known for its amazing hikes, both large and small for people of all fitness levels. The one I know I want to hit is the Cathedral Cove on the Coromandel Peninsula which is consider an easy one. Redwoods Treewalk I haven’t been to the redwoods here in California and while I’d like to, I also want to see the redwoods in New Zealand where you can literally walk in the canopy along suspension bridges. This grove in Rotorua was planted as an experiment in 1901 as most of New Zealand’s native forest had been cut down for farming and they were trying to replace it by planting various types of trees that they thought would grow well. Onsen Hot Pools These hot pools aren’t natural like many in New Zealand, but they are just about as romantic as you can get. You rent a private hot tub for an hour, and soak while overlooking mountains and the Shotover River. Add twinkling lights and booze and what else do you need. We started in Devonport by Auckland where my great aunt lives in the North Island and drove almost all the way down to the tip of the South Island. We left February 2 and arrived home March 2. December through March is the high travel time for New Zealand as it is their spring and summer though be prepared to meet all kinds of weather. We actually missed the famous 2011 Christchruch Earthquake by a day! Fence: Striking Distance by Sarah Rees Brennan (contemporary) THIS BOOK! I’ve talked about the Fence comic by C.S. Pacat here before, but now the story has come to novel form! You don’t have to read the comics to read this book, but in does add background and it gives you a picture of the characters. Similar vibe to Running with Lions, a feel-good cute gay sports contemporary with all the best tropes; friendship, fake dating, angst and, of course, fencing. I read all this book minus the first two chapters in an afternoon and it is probably my favorite read of the year. The Witch Doesn’t Burn in This One by Amanda Lovelace (poetry) The second book in her first poetry and my favorite having a few poems mentioning witchcraft. The Dragon Riders of Pern (1-3) by Anne McCaffrey (fantasy/sci-fi) I got the bind-up of the first three Pern books (Dragonflight, Dragonquest, The White Dragon) and read them all pretty much back to back which was good because you get a lot of characters in this complex world with an ever evolving plot. A strange, but amazing blend of fantasy and science fiction and the first book ever to have humans riding on dragons. A must-read for all dragon and high fantasy fans as the classics are considered for all readers. Light is the New Black by Rebecca Campbell (spiritual) Recommended to me by a friend, I think this was the first spiritual book I had picked up that wasn’t related to witchcraft. The author does talk about God a few times which doesn’t usual sit well with me, but she crafted it in such a way that left it open for you to insert your own beliefs into the sentence. My favorite part was all the journaling prompts at the end of almost every chapter. My mom recommended the Stephen Fry narrated one on Audible and it was incredible. I had heard most of the Sherlock Holmes stories in one way or another, but I actually had never read the first two novels; A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of Four, as well as a couple other. The Black Wolves of Boston by Wen Spencer This book blew me away. I just randomly picked it up in Powell’s City of Books at the end of 2018 because it sounded interesting and had some of my favorite themes; werewolves, vampires and found family. Maybe it was because I had no expectations that I found it so amazing, but it was possibly my favorite book I read last year. Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston This book brought the genre of YA to a whole other level with this fluffy, angsty contemporary about the First son of the President falling in love with the prince of England. This book literally had no flaws and every time I think about it, I want to reread it. Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare A great conclusion to another great series. Cassie Clare did a great job of finishing everyone’s stories (except a few for a future series) and switching between everyone’s POVs. Ravensong by T.J. Klune Second book in the Green Creek series featuring a pack of gay werewolves. This good was focused on my favorite character, Gordon (gay witch). Undertow by Brooklyn Ray The second book in the Port Lewis Witches series. I got the paperback combined copy of this one and the first story which I read last year. Undertow was almost better than the first one. I really enjoyed seeing from Liam’s POV and seeing his and Ryder’s relationship grow.
